The grocery store was out of most types of bread. So in order to get my PB&J on, I had to improvise...

The Giving Trees

The first two shots are of a massive tree that fell onto a house located on Riverland Road. Initial news reports stated that someone died, but those reports thankfully turned out to be incorrect. The third shows a tree that fell in a yard on Davie Boulevard, crushing a fence. Both locations are less than a mile from my house.

Grocery Store Madness

The Publix near my house finally opened for business yesterday morning. It was a little insane. You get a sense of what people buy... and don't buy!... while looking at a supermarket's shelves after a storm. For instance, they were out of frosted strawberry Pop-Tarts, but had virtually every other possible flavor. Go figure.

Taken late Saturday night, I think.

PowerBook... check. Combination flashlight/radio... check. The latest Onion compilation... check. Beer... check.

I'm all set.

Until I know exactly what's happening, I will be sleeping in the hallway with a flashlight by my side. I'm sure this will make me feel like a refugee.

Squall Number Two

I was having trouble figuring out how to deal with the door. I ended up screwing 3 2x4s into it, and screwing plywood on top of them. Should hold up reasonably well.

The difference between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM...

The Crib

Hopefully this won't be the "before" shot...

A potpourri of boarding-related shots.

Even when covered in unspeakable filth, The Bone is a sexy man.

When I went to put the awning down, I realized that I had no way of fastening it. After panicking for several minutes, I took a car (which hasn't been used in months; dead transmission) and parked it in front of the awning. I OWN YOU, FRANCES! (update: In the comments on my blog, Waveflux declared this plan to be "MacGyver thinking.")

All things considered, the day was gorgeous. Here's a shot facing south (you can see part of my ghetto-ass hurricane shutters in the photo).

Test Post

This will be a photoblog with snapshots of Hurricane Frances-related things. Commentary can be found at my regular blog: the_bone.blogspot.com.
